Sunday, January 14Hello Kinder Families, We're off to a wonderful start to 2018! Our themes this month are Arctic Animals and Winter. We're continuing our letter and sound practice, and adapting our reading, writing, social, science, gym, art, and fine motor practice to match our themes. We'll be diving into Penguins and Polar Bears this next week. A friendly reminder that Scholastic book orders are due Monday, January 15 if you're planning on purchasing any books for your child. This time of year with all of the cold and flu bugs going around, we ask that if your child is sick to please keep them at home to rest and get well. This prevents the spread of contagious germies and helps to keep our kinder kiddos healthy for learning. Thank you for your cooperation with this. If you're concerned that your child may miss some learning opportunities, please contact me. I'm very happy to catch them up when they return or send home missed work! :) Sunday, January 7Happy New Year! Welcome back! I hope you had a relaxing holiday with your family and that you all feel refreshed and renewed :) A look at the week ahead:
If you haven't done so already, please remember to send a mason jar (medium size is best) to school with your child. We will be using them for a fun craft this upcoming week. Please also ensure your child is dressed appropriately for the weather. We try to get as much fresh air and outdoor play/learning time as possible, weather permitting. If you'd like to volunteer in our classroom in January, there are still some spaces available. Please contact Nancy if you're interested. Thank you-- we are so appreciative of our kinder families! Monday, December 18A look at the week ahead:
Enjoy your Christmas break and time with your family! I'll be uploading a bunch of December photos over the holidays. I didn't want to post them yet and spoil some of the special Christmas gifts the kinders have been crafting this month ;) See you back on January 8! Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays! ~Mrs. McCormick~ Monday, December 11A look at the week ahead:
It's still December, but we're already thinking about January! :) Please have your child bring in a clear mason jar with a lid. They will need it for a special craft after Christmas break. Nancy is also starting to look for volunteers for January. Thank you again to all of our amazing parent volunteers! Your presence in the classroom and on field trips is valued and very appreciated! :) Monday, December 4Happy December! It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas. . . :) A look at the week ahead:
Our Home Reading program started last week. The goal is to spark an early interest in books and reading. It's by no means mandatory, but if you're able to, please read to/with your child each night. Student's will pick a new book each day to bring home. Please record the book read in their log so that they can earn a prize when they fill a page! I uploaded the last of the November photos. Please keep an eye out soon for the December photo album. The kiddos are very excited about the new Christmas centers and activities/crafts :) The kinders have been working hard practicing their songs for the Christmas Concert on December 14. They are sounding fantastic! If you'd like to help your child practice at home, here are the lyrics for the two songs they will be performing: Sunday, November 26Hello Kinder Families, It was wonderful meeting with you at Parent Teacher Learning Conferences. Thank you for taking the time to meet with me to discuss your special little kinder. By doing so, you are helping to ensure their success! Please check your email for Keenooshayo's November Newsletter :) We are sad to share that Ms. Gold will be leaving us to help out at another school in our district. We wish her well and we'll miss her! In her place we are excited to welcome Mrs. Van Den Biggelaar. She has been working in Opportunity at Keenooshayo and two of her children attend our school. We are very lucky to have her join us in kindergarten. Our Star of the Week will be Sloan! Every Friday we will do a draw for next week's Star. If you haven't done so already, please ensure your child's package is returned so that they can be entered in the draw. We are still in need of many December volunteers with all of the fun Christmas crafts and activities we have planned. Please contact Nancy Malaka if you are able to help out! Thank you! We will continue to try to play and learn outside as much as possible when the weather cooperates, so please send your kinders in warm winter gear every morning. Snow pants are encouraged! Sunday, November 19Hello Kinder Families, This week we have our Parent / Teacher Learning Conferences on Monday, November 20 and Tuesday, November 21 starting at 4:00 PM. Each appointment time is 20 minutes in length. Please try to arrive on schedule so that we have plenty of time to discuss your special little kinder. There are still a couple of appointment times available if you haven't signed up yet: https://keenooshayo.schoolappointments.com Please check with Nancy Malaka for dates available in December to volunteer in our classroom. We have so many fun Christmas activities and crafts planned that we will need help with. Thank you in advance, your help is very appreciated! We will be starting our Star of the Week this week! :) If your child happens to be chosen on a short week, please have them bring in two items on one of their days and we will double up on their special sharing time. I have received most of the children's packages, but I am still waiting on a few to be returned. If you could have them back to me by the end of this week, that would be fantastic. Please remember that this is a short week and there is NO SCHOOL on Friday, November 24. Sunday, November 5Happy November! We have a new classmate joining us tomorrow. Her name is Aaliyah. Welcome to Keenooshayo, Aaliyah! Thank you! Upcoming days to remember:
Thank you to all of our parent volunteers! Your help in our classroom is very appreciated. If you have signed up to make playdough, please use the recipe below for the best results. Thank you! :) PLAYDOUGH RECIPE This is a great tried and true recipe that is not sticky. This recipe is already doubled to provide enough. 2 cups flour 1 cup salt 2 tsp cream of tartar 2 cups boiling water 4 tbsp oil food colouring Combine ingredients into large bowl and mix. Remove from bowl and knead until smooth consistency. You may need to add flour while kneading. If it sticks to your table, add more. Cool and place in a ziplock bag. |
